Rage = Borderlands - co-op play - bazillions of guns - rpg like levelling - funny writing. Very meh overall...

Very interesting tale. Quite harrowing depiction of war. With hints of Apocalypse Now. Poor Walker... Powerful tale indeed. Be careful how you wage your wars, kids.

Very nice PC port. Looks gorgeous and plays smooth. A noble attempy by Ninja Theory to continue on the Devil May Cry franchise. It certainly plays like it. But it is a lot easier. And the combat is a lot simpler. In 20 levels there were a mere 6 bosses. Only 1 of them managed to kill me. And outside of that boss fight and some cheap platforming deaths, I had barely half a dozen regular deaths throughout the game. Even on normal difficulty, that is not right for Devil May Cry. But despite that, still plenty of hacky slashy fun. Cut scenes were extremely well put together with good voice acting and a lot of facial detail. Really drew you in to the story. Final battle was fantastic and very fitting also. Similar vein to Devil May Cry 3's final battle although nowhere near as cataclysmic. That's no dis-service to this game in particular. There is just very little that can approach that battle. Vergil....

Woahs. Amazing ending to an amazing series. But it's not really the ending...there will be more. But it is the ending to this particular line of the story. I think... Brilliant closing with epic battles and many surprises along the way. As well as many nice throwbacks and pieces of nostalgia. But very melancholy too with Snake being so very very old and you know the whole time you're marching towards your own death. Kind of sad it's all done now... What a final battle though. Son of a bitch that was amazing

SNAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKEEEEE!!!!!

LIQUIIIIIIDDDD!!!!!

Really not a lot to do on the moon. Besides weld shit. And that gets old pretty quick

More classic shooter action. And an even more nonsensical plot

Fun shooter action. Pure classic SEGA cheese and terrible voice acting

Worst one yet...weird, slow, clunky, 3D bits suck, bosses were freakishly hard with no real classic weaknesses. Shame the last in the X series I played was also the worst...

Sunday, 13 January 2013

Fairly standard entry. Dropped the dumb 3D bits from X7 which was a wise move. Played these in the wrong order but that doesn't matter terribly cause the plot is all over the place anyway.

Awesome awesome game. Production values of even the big console MGS installments. Looks, feels and plays like them too even despite the PSP's limitations. Bravo to the team for pulling this off on the hardware. Shame it didn't sell very well... Co-op is also extremely well implemented. Nothing too complicated or forced gimmick moves, just 1 more person there to back you up. Only complaint (as usual with MGS games) is the weirdness of the story, particularly in the final hour and how some things (some quite major plot points) just happen without explanation, rhyme or reason. One of the best parts is undoubtedly sky-hooking enemy soldiers out of the field and back to your base. Usually full of bullet holes. Bravo Kojima. Bravo. Hope there will be more like this even though it seems unlikely. Co-op works excellent in tactical espionage action.

Old classic finally laid to rest

Monday, 7 January 2013

Somewhat of a weird entry...I can see the design point of view: bite-size missions for on the go, but just didn't seem to gel too well...still was nice to get some more back story on Big Boss, the first Metal Gear, origins of Outer Heaven (stolen from the nut-bag end boss) and how Big Boss starts to go nuts looking for "a calling" and passing on what was given to him. Controls were a bit awkward too...but visuals were very nice for PSP.

Friday, 4 January 2013

Very awesome. Again very cinematic. Very different to the other 2 though. No modern gadgets. No postmodern weirdness. Lots of camouflage and eating animals. Don't think I was playing it right though because I was spotted in pretty much every room no matter what I did to sneak up on people...Very sad ending. Poor Boss was just doing her duty and got fucked over. I can see now why Snake does what he does now that he is the Big Boss. Portable Ops next!

Last of the original series. Sad times. Was getting to enjoy them a lot. Particularly the last few with the modern conveniences of new games and quirky stories. Make more of these, Capcom! On to the remnants of the X series now.

Wow.  What a year.  Didn't think I could beat last years numbers especially after starting a job and being busier, but the passion for gaming seems stronger than ever.  Just hope I can again keep up the pace.  Or accelerate it further!

Game of the year: undoubtedly XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

138 games beaten this year.  PC pulled even further ahead accounting for almost half of all games played this year.  This was thanks to lots of co-op gaming and jimbob's rebuild into a mighty gaming monster.

A good few loose ends tied up this year as well.  Metroid series, Paper Mario, Zeldas, Painkillers, Call of Dutys and lots more.

Backlog completion passed 75% completion this year.  Very nice indeed.  Although this was largely due to heavy culling of games I knew I would never play.  Although this was balanced out by nullifying repeated game entries on multiple systems unless that had actually been played through fully on all.  A few more years of this pace and I might just clear it.  Provided that not too many new ones are added...If only I could take a year off work to just churn it out.

More platforms worked on this year thanks to branching out to clean out systems and the new addition of Vita and iPad.

First beaten game of the new year! Was hoping to get this one beat in 2012 but sadly it did not happen. Nevertheless, a classic return to form for the original Mega Man series. Highly enjoyable and rock hard. Hope they keep making these for a long time to come, but for the moment, there is only 1 game left in this series...sad....
