Longest and most boring of them all yet...hopefully the throwback ones are better

Saturday 29 December 2012

First ios game. Felt dirty...but quite a nice port of the original. Captured the flow nicely. Good visuals and awesome tunes. Slightly frustrating in points due to controls, but this is to be expected with any touch game really.

The series only SNES entry ticked off now. Only PSX entry up next. This one was an odd variety of difficulty...levels themselves were kind of tricky, but all robot masters were very easy. Wily bosses were tricky and Wily himself was a bastard. Strange variety...

Friday 28 December 2012

Last of the NES Mega Mans down. But not the last classic one. This one was pretty hard...but the Mega Man/Rush combo modes were very cool. On to the singular SNES entry!

Thursday 27 December 2012

Another one down. Half way through the original series. Reviewers were right it seems...quality did start to decline a bit after #4

Monday 24 December 2012

Very good sequel. Both these games are crying out for HD remakes. Despite their age, still have an awesome story and did a lot with the limited technology of the time. This one established many of the conventions of the Metal Gear series. Awesome stuff. Still very playable to this day. Still hard too...bring on more Metal Gear

Saturday 22 December 2012

Still surprisingly playable even to this day. Good to see how it all begun. Game development-wise. Not chronological story line-wise. That will come soon.... These early games need modern HD remakes

Thursday 20 December 2012

Wow. What a head fuck. Can't tell if this game is genuinely very hard, hard to control or if I just suck and am too used to modernisms. Apart from all that, fantastic stuff. Thought provoking and awesome and did not want to put it down. On with the other ones!

Sunday 16 December 2012

Quite significantly longer than the first one. And plagued by the same control difficulties in that you would do a 180 quite regularly for no reason. Other than that, another fun Android shooter and total Halo rip off

Saturday 15 December 2012

Moving through the original series. Every bit as hard as I recall...

Classic Castle Crashing action. Much easier with 4 people. And insane

Thursday 13 December 2012

Starting through the original Mega Man series

Wednesday 12 December 2012

Meh...decent enough but just seemed very small-scale, tame and boring after playing the similar but more more grandiose Prototype games. Dunno if I'll do inFamous 2

Thursday 6 December 2012

Interesting adventure. Of sorts... Fucking difficult though. Funny too. BLEIGH!

Tuesday 4 December 2012

Infinitely better than the second game. Worried me at the start because it felt very similar only in a jungle...but thankfully, it differentiated itself very well. Loads and loads to do. Plenty of variety in the missions, good story and skillset. Not to mention awesome eye candy. Bravo Ubisoft. You finally got Far Cry right. Feels good being a jungle warrior

Thursday 29 November 2012

Should have been a main mission probably. But still another good addition to the plot. Liara and her friend are total fucking beasts. Hope more DLC will come

Sunday 25 November 2012

Quite a lot easier than the first one. And shorter. And on a lesser scale. Still lots of awesome choppy choppy action and the combat is more involved. Up close and personal. And a lot of very cool moves. Very sad there will never be a third...

Thursday 22 November 2012

Classic Tekken action. Good to see some of the golden oldie characters back. But not all of them...might have to unlock the rest

Also a notable entry because this game (technically...might decide later otherwise) pushed me over this years goal for number of games completed! And 39 days ahead of schedule no less! So plenty of time to push the number even higher.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

After episode 4, it was clear this was never going to end well...but it was still a rough ending...and some pretty bad decisions. Powerful stuff all round. Bravo Telltale

Tuesday 20 November 2012

Fucking madness. Starts with you being able to run faster than most cars, jump over buildings and throw cars down the street and only escalates from there into you single handedly taking out entire tank batillions and hoardses of giant mutants and entire military bases, stealing tanks and helicopters, sprinting down the street eating people to restore health, running up sheer building faces, jumping hundreds of feet in the air and gliding across Manhattan. Mad fun. Mad pace. Mad destruction. Bring on #2. Just sad the studio died and there will never be a #3...

Saturday 17 November 2012

A lot more forgiving than the first. And actually kind of fun. Still ridiculous and cheesy through and through though. But kind of so bad it's good

Friday 16 November 2012

Quick jaunt back to Colonial times for another PS3 exclusive DLC. To chase a traitor. But he got away. And apparently there were epilogue missions I missed too...

Thursday 15 November 2012

Solid shooter action. Future guns are fun! But was expecting more mind messing action then occured...maybe I needed to mkae different choices. Quite easy too. Turns out I got the worst ending

Sunday 11 November 2012

Much better than the reviews said. Mighty mighty long with all 4 campaigns though. Only did 2 (Leon and Chris) but still enjoyable like 5 in co-op. With some new cool additions like moving and shooting, diving to the floor and distant exchanges. Gonna have to revise the plot though to make sense of it....

Saturday 10 November 2012

A good bit better than the trashing it got in most reviews. Although they were correct about the repetitiveness and memorisation required for a good few bits. Thankfully, this didn't get too annoying or spoil an otherwise very well put together game with great atmosphere. Called the ending halfway through the game though

Friday 9 November 2012

Awesome snow robot explosion romp. Lacked the epicness of the 2nd game (and the co-op) but still a quality adventure. Story was equally obscure....

Tuesday 6 November 2012

Even better than expected. Another masterpiece from Criterion. Just like Burnout only with real cars, a "campaign" of kind and gorgeous DX11 graphics. Bravo, Criterion. Bravo

Thursday 1 November 2012

Another quality installment of Assassin action. Liked the outdoors and tree running and hunting and seeing a fledgling nation being born. Didn't like the lack of Ezio... Or the amount of work needed to do side-quests like building and getting new gear. Ezio did that much easier... Was the ending another cliffhanger? I don't know....felt like one

Saturday 27 October 2012

Very short. But an interesting glimpse at possibilities...and nowhere near as bad as it was slated to be. Not much different from the call of duties and such. Just shorter. R.I.P. Goliath. We will remember you fondly

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Wow. Just....wow....don't think I've enjoyed a game so much since...Deus Ex: Human Revolution probably. Just did not want to stop playing it until it was done. A near enough perfect re-imagining of a brilliant classic updated with modern nuances making it just as good, if not better, than the original. Me, Steve, Kathryn and Betsy blew the field open with heavy weapons. Eugene and Matt covered us long range with dead-eye sniping. Scrooge was all out assault charging pointy tip of the spear with Nathan who brought in support and many live specimens. Steve 2 also brought in support but unfortunately developed a nervous condition causing him to panic under fire. Laura and Adrian saw little combat but tried admirably. Little John and Phil were the first of us to develop new and amazing psionic powers, but ultimately, it was Phil who made the final sacrifice to save the Earth

Sunday 21 October 2012

Restarting the fight. It's Halo. No doubt. 343 Industries first in the series is off to a good start. Didn't mess with the formula. It's still Halo. Quality of visuals is unbelievable. Looks like live action. And lots of really fun vehicle sections. Only faults I can give it is the music is very quiet, subdued and forgettable. Not like old Halo music at all which was unforgettable. And the story flings things at you without explanation and then takes them away again just as quick. But still. Bring on more of this.

Saturday 20 October 2012

Wow. That was a long one. And a huge one. And a lengthy one. And an enormous one. etc. So much to see, so much to do, so much stuff to get, so many people to kill. Great all round. Benefited greatly from having a real writer this time. Very funny and charming

Wednesday 17 October 2012

That really was obscure...and bad too. Not even a funny enjoyable kind of bad. Just plain bad. And cheap. But a survival horror co-op game is still an interesting concept. And we will be playing ObsCure II: The Aftermath. Eventually...

Tuesday 16 October 2012

After 8 days hit with a game breaking bug right at the end. Calling it as done anyway due to poor campaign scripting. Otherwise very good recreation of the original. Marred only slightly by horrible A.I. path finding algorithms...

Thursday 11 October 2012

Quite an action packed episode. And tense too. No way things are going to end well now...

Monday 8 October 2012

Some more old Atari ST games done

Friday 5 October 2012

Awesome stuff. Pretty much a straight Devil May Cry clone but with a chick instead. But very stylish and cool and a lot of fun. Need to buy a Wii U for the sequel now...

Wednesday 3 October 2012

One last visit to Italy with Ezio for a short PS3 exclusive DLC. Usual stuff. But brought back a lot of good memories. The next one will be in the civil war...

Basic game was decent enough. But story was horseshit indeed...make Samus seem too girly and weak. And Phantoon? What the fuck? Also, missing important Metroid sound effects like item get...not the best Metroid ever

Monday 1 October 2012

More clearing up old games...

Sunday 30 September 2012

Cleaning up the last of the Game Boy mono games. This one is hard...and long...

Didn't think I'd ever actually play this and then one day they were "Yeah it's done. It'll be out in a few days". Boom. Needless to say excellent reworking of a classic. Makes it much easier on the eyes. But I do not like the crouch jumping... A fine job all round

Tuesday 25 September 2012

Rocky and weird start that didn't feel very Metroidy (mainly due to the lack of total isolation) but it very quickly pulled itself together and returned to old form later on. Can't decide if the wiimote controls are a blessing or curse though....strafing is very nice. As is the ability to free aim. But lock on aim never fails...The final closing of the game was also a bit...not...metroidy. But all in all still awesome and good to see the universe ridd of phazon once and for all

Wednesday 19 September 2012

Cool classic dual stick shooter. Good job SEGA

Sunday 16 September 2012

Clearing up the last of the SNES games unfinished. They were very cheap back then

Fun like the last one but seemed to have a lot of pointless UAV based missions...and take offs...and landings...and most enemy planes had unlimited countermeasures. And severe networking issues. All this made it less fun than the first. But still decent enough

Monday 10 September 2012

Another long forgotten entry left by the wayside perhaps...7 years ago. Finally laid to rest again today. Feels good. As for the game itself: good stuff just like it's predecessor. But with a lot of annoying new things...like dark world constantly eating you. And suit looking like ass for 90% of the game. And key hunting at the end...apart from that good stuff. Just hope #3 is more like #1

Tuesday 4 September 2012

Very similar to the first (probably the exact same engine) but with the time limit removed. While this sounded nice at first, it actually meant the game could be much longer...and as a result, it felt like it dragged a lot. Also didn't like that the bulk of the game was in the underground "Dungeons" or "Holes". Preferred the above ground work. And it was also very cheap in a lot of places. But still good!

Saturday 1 September 2012

Long put off but finally played it in preparation for Luigi's Mansion 2 coming out soon on 3DS. Very fun game. Not the usual Mario jumping and stomping but more puzzley and Ghostbustery. Stayed fresh and varied enough throughout the whole game though and didn't get boring or annoying. Good show Nintendo for the very first Gamecube game ever.

Friday 31 August 2012

A bit calmer than the last one (relatively) but still some very rough moments...building up to a big finish it seems like. Adios Duck

Thursday 30 August 2012

Good to see old Shep back in action. Liking the first (well overdue) single player DLC. More of this and less bloody multiplayer map packs. Curious mix between sleuthing and killing. Some very tense action parts and an intriguing mystery to follow with a good conclusion explaining some (but not all...) of the Reaper's origins. Didn't say why the Catalyst suddenly thought of the Leviathans as a threat to organics...all they wanted to do was protect organics.

Monday 27 August 2012

Good painting fun for a few hours, but seemed to drag and felt about twice as long as it should have been

Sunday 26 August 2012

Okay...getting there...

Saturday 25 August 2012

...wuh?

Holy crap. So awesome. Grimlock. Metroplex. Bruticus. Optimus. Megatron. And many others. All kicking so much ass so very epicly. More!

Monday 13 August 2012

Decent enough light gun shooter, but the steering and dodging mechanics don't work too well. Or I'm too stupid to understand them.

Total rip off of Halo down to almost every detail. I think the only reason Bungie didn't sue was because it wasn't worth their time. Apart from that a decent shooting romp with somewhat sticky controls, but that's to be expected from touch screen controls.

Sunday 12 August 2012

Just as terrible as all the reviews said it was. Bad, boring, annoying, hard and easy all at the same time. Hard to believe the same team made the amazing Devil May Cry 3...

Saturday 11 August 2012

Tricky to get the networking working (like all Ubisoft games) but once done provided many hours of co-op dogfighting fun. I especially enjoyed the "assistance off" mode which was dramatic and cool

Monday 6 August 2012

Another awesome Android game. A good port of the original that is atmospheric and well produced. Bravo EA. More droid games!

Friday 3 August 2012

First portable dual stick shooter. Classic Resistance action only in the palm of your hand. Good stuff too. Felt like "Rescue Me" with Chimera because you were a firefighter called Tommy in New York...haha. Kind of short but well balanced and fun. Until the cheap ass end boss...

Tuesday 31 July 2012

First Vita game! Very good launch title for it. Unbelievable to see PS3 quality titles in your hand. Awesome game just like all the other Uncharteds, but the touch screen bits seemed a bit gimickey and tacked on. Nevertheless, a strong addition to the series. Bravo Bend Studios.

Friday 27 July 2012

Very nice Android version. Looking forward to playing its big brother in co-op on pc.

Monday 23 July 2012

Another awesome android game. Like the tactical shooting. Think it was using the same engine as Splinter Cell Conviction HD...

Saturday 21 July 2012

Just like the original

Friday 20 July 2012

More classic LEGO action. Funny stuff. Although it did re-hash the original 3 films from the first game...

Wednesday 18 July 2012

Also very short. And not as good as the main Time Crisis series

Good old Time Crisis action. Been a while. Haven't played one since CRT days. Brings me back. Just like old times

Tuesday 17 July 2012

Very high caliber for an Android game. Captures the universe of Mass Effect very nicely. And actually enjoyable to play unlike a lot of Droid games which feel clumsy. Hope Randal tears Cerberus a new one

Crazy short. But still crazy hard. And crazy old skool SEGA

Very clearly influenced by Metroid. and G.I. Joe. Strange combination of the 2...good stuff though.

Sunday 15 July 2012

Classic Resistance action. Done in co-op this time. Same as other entries only with a few more bugs it seems. Nevertheless, good to see the Chimera getting owned some more despite Nathan Hale being dead... Wonder will there be a 4th

Saturday 14 July 2012

So very very weird... Last of the Suda51 games until Killer is Dead. Typical Suda51 weirdness through and through. Gameplay got off to a bit of a rocky start and had some very very annoying minigames, but once some of the sweeter combos were unlocked it got a lot better.

Thursday 12 July 2012

Almost identical to the first. Same city only in worse shape... Less variety too. Instead of killing a bunch of different crime bosses in varied lairs, you just activated 27 absorption units and 9 beacons in almost identical settings. Helicopter was cool though

Tuesday 10 July 2012

My god...so fucking hard...was expecting a simple romp through London with a bit of red weed dodging. But ended up just dying continuously over and over and over and over again. Even Patrick Stewart's voice started to get annoying when he said the same thing for the 50th time...

Monday 9 July 2012

The last in the Painkiller family. But it seems like they want another sequel... Quite similar to Redemption in the non stop madness and killing, but only 5 levels to half as long. Overdosed...

Sunday 8 July 2012

Another fan-made installment. Very much back to the "purer" Painkiller experience in that it was just constant killing and no wandering around trying to find the right place. Good shit. Even if it was nothing new

Fan made game. And it shows.... Buggy as hell, levels have no structure whatsoever and spent hours searching each one for the tiny hole or passage that would lead onwards. Strange how you could make painkiller boring...

Friday 6 July 2012

Very rough stuff. Story is getting quite interesting. Felt like most decisions had no real right or wrong answer. Just varying degrees of bad. A lot better than the first episode. Makes me more keen to play the remaining 3 now

Thursday 5 July 2012

Quite interesting and different. Head melting puzzles too. But charming and fun and easy to recommend. There's a lot more extra stuff to it too but I didn't do it all...

Tuesday 3 July 2012

Very soothing and nice and easy on the eyes. This was the last of thatgamecompany's games. Hope there will be more...

Another expansion on the original using the same engine with the same absurdly long loading times. But still all the same awesome non stop killing action. Lacking in the giant bosses though...

Saturday 30 June 2012

Very similar to the first only with the ability to same as the same character. Felt shorter too. And the last level didn't make us want to die. All in all good co-op fun and very pretty and charming. But having 2 people both be the wizard does break a lot of the game and make it too easy.

Tuesday 26 June 2012

Much improved over the original. Plot holes patched nicely. And there's now a feeling of accomplishment and (maybe even) success. But the star child still sucks...

Sunday 24 June 2012

Wow...just...wow. Can't recommend that one enough. The very textbook definition of short but sweet. barely 2 hours long but every second was magical, gorgeous and unforgettable. Anyone who doesn't own a ps3, get one and this.

Also, 60% backlog completion. Win win.

Saturday 23 June 2012

Way too seriously serious

Thursday 21 June 2012

Lazy console port, but still lots of force pushing lightsabre chopping fun

Very short. And quite hard. But a very sweet game from an indie developer. Good to see more and more awesome indie games popping up everywhere. Nice to give it to the machine too.

Saturday 16 June 2012

Very awesome and atmospheric with lots of tension. Feelings of silent hill and ico. Genuinely upsetting and unnerving at times too

good shit. came together well at the end with a nice variety of melee and ranged weapons and an interesting twist on the zombies. buggy as hell though...lan doesnt actually work. But an awesomely huge world with sweet scenery and lots to do. Co-op very ell implemented too. Saves everything on both sides

Tuesday 12 June 2012

Another one left by the wayside. Only 8 years ago this time. But finally finished. Although I could remember none of what I had done in it 8 years ago... Still classic Paper Mario action. Charming and funny and lots of fun.

Wednesday 6 June 2012

Max's long awaited return was powerful and awesome. But not quite the same. More cover and less jumping around. More cinematic, less theatric. Rockstar did a goob job, but its hard to see the influence Remedy left apart from Max's poetic musings. And the theme

Sunday 27 May 2012

Final Rock Band game! Yay! This one seem was a lot more crazy fun that the usual, and the short song option was nice. Lots of cool LEGO references too. Good shit.

Good old fashioned rock Band fun. With so much ball tripping..

Sunday 20 May 2012

Fantastic stuff. Motion plus gives better sword control. Challenging yet satisfying and only occasionally annoying. Only minor drawback is the lack of variety of areas. Visited the same 3 main places twice each. Apart from that 1 minor quibble, a fantastic game. and provided great starts to and explanations of most of the long running Zelda traditions.

Saturday 19 May 2012

Good co-op fun. Until the last level...which was just pure sadism. Apart from that, very nicely produced. Pretty visuals (if a little busy at times) and good mechanics. Even though the thief was pretty much useless.

Thursday 17 May 2012

Lubriciously difficult in some parts. But still a lot of swingy shooty action.

Monday 14 May 2012

99% identical to its predecessor. But still had enough new parts to keep it interesting. As well as a much needed checkpoint system. Apart from that, the same old tape or die co-op awesomeness

Monday 7 May 2012

700th game finished milestone! Also very very close to 60% total completion. Sweet.

As far as this game goes...I think I preferred seasons. It was more actiony. This one was fun, but a bit strange. It pulled a lot of races, characters and settings from Hyrule (that really shouldnt be in Labyrnia) and specifically from Ocarins of Time. Possible because both the Oracle games were released not long after Ocarina of Time so they wanted to cash in on it a bit with familiar aspects. The linking system is clever though. A lot of actions carried over and characters remember you and such and linking the 2 games provides a better "Real" ending.

Only 1 proper Zelda game left now. The most recent Skyward Sword. Probably wont bother with the knock off CD-I games or the BS snes remakes. But may do some of the Tingle spin offs...time will tell. They do look interesting.

Sunday 6 May 2012

Lots of madcap super pong fun. But mentally and physically draining

Saturday 5 May 2012

Much worse than we expected... Was expecting Army of Two with swords and much worse. But it had its moments. And a lot of technical and polish issues such as clipping, bad lip syncing, awful camera, lack of checkpoints. Could have been a lot more

Wednesday 2 May 2012

Another long forgotten game thrown to the wayside what was probably over 10 years ago finally finished. Feels good. The game itself is a little strange...feels like Link's Awakening...but is not Link's Awakening...it uses the same engine but is upgraded with colour and such and a whole new world and story. But still uses a lot of common items, graphics, environments and enemies. Game itself was fun enough but quite annoying in some parts. Lacked the polish and balance of a pure Nintendo Zelda game I'd say. Still a fine addition to the series though.

Sunday 29 April 2012

Super awesome. Very nice use of co-op with clever puzzles and excellent flow/controls and lots and lots of fun. Need many more games like this

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Interesting little adventure game. Good feeling of familiarity with the show. Kind of like a dumbed down point and click adventure. Don't know if I'll play all episodes though...

Monday 23 April 2012

Awesome classic zelda action. Seemed short at first, but last few parts really made up for it. Last leg in particular was exhausting. Medium dungeon, Huge dungeon, battle with 6 small trains, battle with 1 huge train, battle with small boss, battle with huge boss.

Still a solid zelda romp

Monday 16 April 2012

Good old Rock Band action, with an awesome catalogue of songs. But the career mode is the stupidest of any guitar game yet. It dragged a lot, facilitated pointless grinding and lasted way too long. Funny ending though

Sunday 15 April 2012

A decent enough "trying to be gears" shooter. Copied the "slow walking and talking" and "hold Y to look" mechanisims. Not quite as bad as we expected it to be. Despite the awful aiming, toy like enemies (of which there were only 4 kinds). Also lacking any kind of real plot. But it was mercifully short. Clearly rushed out to tie in with the film. And serious over-use of the terminator theme and hammer sound effect, both of which lose their emotional impact when they are constantly played

Saturday 14 April 2012

A lot longer than we expected it to be...and a lot harder in places too. But nonetheless, very very well put together. Gorgeous visuals and weirdly addictive music. A good throwback to old skool 2d platformers. Well reccomended. Lots of fun in co-op too.

Thursday 12 April 2012

A definite struggle to finish. very boring and repetitive. 12 levels in total, but only 6 really cause we had to do them all twice. also featured weird characters who werent the real ghostbusters and so dont matter. one of them was called b-gone.....enough said

Monday 9 April 2012

punks

Friday 6 April 2012

much more fun than world at war. Reznov is nuts also
